🎨 A New Design System for Kaidianbao

Background:

Kaidianbao is Meituan’s online business platform, which the merchants use to operate their online stores and products. However, some modules have not been designed in a uniform visual style, and we also found some pain points in using Kaidianbao during user interviews.

Design Goals:

  • Create a new design system of components and layouts to reduce user’s learning costs and operation costs

  • Redesign the user flow of some functions to solve user pain points and improve the usability of the products

  • Optimize the information structure to improve the transmission efficiency of information

Results:

Due to Meituan’s Non-Disclosure Agreement, I can’t share my design work here. If you are interested in my internship work, please reach out to me, and we can talk about it in detail :)

🧠 Learnings from My Internship Experience

  • Understood what is the daily routine of a UI/UX designer and their responsibilities in Tech companies.

  • Learned how to collaborate with other designers, PMs, and Software Engineers, and how to negotiate with others when we have different opinions.

  • Sometimes there is a gap between prototype and software development, and some of the designer's ideas may not be developed because of technical limitations.

  • The real-world projects are far more complex than my personal projects, and there are many more perspectives to consider while doing designs.

  • Participated in the company's designer training, and learned a lot of design thinking skills. I used to think that design is subjective, but in fact, there are many analytical tools to test whether it is a good design, such as user interviews, online surveys, A/B tests, data analysis techniques, and so on.
